The call

Last Friday, I realized that my friend who is working in the US has stopped communicating with me since last month. Wondering how she has been, I tried to call her on my mobile phone. Sometimes her phone rings but most of the time I cannot connect to her phone. Getting worried, I searched my address book for the land line number of her office. I finally found it and I started dialing. I really could not explain what was happening that day with the telephone lines because it took me almost 15 minutes to get connected .When finally, somebody answered my call, I immediately asked for my friend. The person on the other line uttered something like Dennis Carey, maybe he was introducing himself but the line was not clear. I thought of talking to the owner of the website I encounter before. Their name was very similar. Anyway I asked him again about my friend and finally he informed me that she’s having a meeting that time and that I can leave a message so that she could call me once she is informed. I was thanking God that time knowing she is just really busy. When she called me up an hour after, she was very apologetic. It turned out that she is heading a big project this time. But then again, I am glad she is alright.

Thank you my friends!

Kids today

Early this year, my friend got a promotion in her existing employment. She’s not the typical office girl anymore. With her new job position, she get to travel a lot, dealing with new clients, visiting their existing clients to cater to their needs and to form a corporation in San Diego. One time, her five year old nephew asked her if he could join her with her trips because he wanted to ride on an airplane. Aside from informing her that she can not attend to his needs if he’ll go with her because she’ll be very busy. She gave him an alibi that kids under 7 years of age are not allowed to travel with out their parents. But he told my friend his mom is very busy nowadays. With his desire to ride on planes, he innocently asked her if he can hide in her luggage so that they will not be questioned at the airport. My friend wanted to laugh but she didn’t want him to feel bad. So she told him to ask his mom, when she’ll not be busy, that they can go with her in the next trip. He gladly said yes and went straight to convince his mom

A Secret

My good friend Paul who has been the big brother that I never had is getting married to another good friend of mine, Ellaine on the 28th day of March. I have been helping them with their wedding preparations since November including the bridal shower to held at one of the bars in Encinitas. December last year, Paul was contemplating whether he will buy Ellaine’s choice of wedding rings which are far more costly than his choice or he will just talk to her about it, explaining they are being short of cash, but he didn’t want to disappoint his bride to be. I told him to give me a day to try something to help them.

The next day, when we met, I surprised Paul with a 25% discount card from the jewelry store. I could not describe how his face lighted up with delight when I gave him the card. He was so thankful because he is sure Ellaine will not be disappointed. And where did I get the discount card? That is a secret I can’t disclose!

Preferring snail mail

Today, when technology rules the world, doing things for our loved ones is getting short of our personal touch. During my first few months away from home, friends update me through email. It was exciting because we send and receive emails instantly. But more often than not, we sounded like sending text messages, where, “I think about you all the time and I long for your presence everyday” is typed as “’miz u”. In college, we always write letters to each other, from short inspiring messages to love or sorry letters. We love to scribble words on stationery and giving them to friends.

So, during one of our bi-weekly on line chats, we agreed to bring back the practice of writing and sending our personal letters through snail mail. When I got the first letter from my best friend, I was very delighted. That was the time when we have our new security, locking kind of mailboxes. It felt so good to read from home!
